Sonoran Desert Flyers, Inc. (SDF) is an Arizona non-profit corporation and an Academy of Modeling Aeronautics (AMA) affiliated radio control model aircraft club of about 40 members.  Club members primarily fly fixed wing and helicopter model aircraft using liquid fuel or electric propulsion.  Occasionally, gliders are also flown.  We may be reached through e-mail via the link at the bottom of this page or by our mailing address:

Club meetings are held periodically when there is club business to transact; however, there is no rigid meeting schedule.  The emphasis is on maximizing our flying time.

Recently, the club lost it long-time flying field and is looking for a new permanent site. In the interim period, social events are periodically arranged at other sites. Read about our interim electric only field for 25 lb or less models here: "Interim Field Found!"

Historically, two or more social events are held annually.  Most commonly these are in the form of  a fun fly where other clubs and the general public are invited to visit our field, participate in a raffle, and share a barbequed lunch for a small charge.  AMA members may fly their aircraft as our guests, and instructors with trainer aircraft are available to give those interested in the hobby a chance to try it.  Member fun fly events are also conducted that include events such as an egg drop, balloon bust, spot landing, etc.  These smaller events are for members and their families only.  Check our upcoming events for the next event.

SDF also participates in other area RC events such as co-sponsoring events with other clubs and sometimes helping with full scale aerobatic competition in the area.  The club is run by a staff of officers and committees which are detailed in club newsletters, published quarterly.  Recent newsletters may be found on this web site.
